Information FOR POTENTIAL USERS
GENERAL
The minibus is a Volswagen LT35 with 15 seats, (including driver) and is available on a self-drive hire basis. Any organisation wishing to use the vehicle must be non-profit making concerned with education, religion, social welfare, recreation or other activities of benefit to the community. We regret that we are not able to offer the vehicle to the general public, businesses or for any journeys outside the UK.
This minibus is operated under a Section 19 permit issued by the Vehicle & Operator Services Agency, (Western Traffic Area office). Whilst this permit covers Barnstaple Round Table and certain other organisations, most organisations interested in using the vehicle will have to apply directly to VOSA or their own head office, for their own “small bus” permit. This requires a small one off payment. Further details of can be found at www.vosa.gov.uk or from the headquarters of the relevant organisation.
Members of Barnstaple and District Round Table have raised the funds for the purchase of the vehicle, principally through the firework display held at Barnstaple Rugby Club every year. Barnstaple Round Table Community Minibus Ltd is a non-profit making organisation; all funds received from users of the vehicle will be used to cover running costs, including the eventual replacement of the vehicle. We are therefore able to provide the minibus for the use of community groups at a favourable rate, however any interested groups must register with and be approved by us prior to using the vehicle. The day to day operating and maintenance of the vehicle is kindly dealt with by Silverstreet Motors of Barnstaple, the local Volkswagen dealer.
WHO CAN DRIVE?
Any driver of the vehicle must:
- have held a current driving licence for a minimum of 2 years (not a provisional licence), which authorises him/her to drive a vehicle adapted to carry more than eight passengers, (category B and D1 driving entitlements)
- be 21 years of age or over.
INSURANCE
Users will need to complete a standard hire form and provide a credit card deposit or cheque to the value of £250 before the vehicle is taken out. (Regular hirers may only need to do this once). Please note that the standard excess set by our insurers is £250, (where the driver is over 25, has a clean driving licence and fulfills the requirements outlined above). Where the driver is under the age of 25 or he/she or the person in charge of the vehicle at the time of any loss or damage has been convicted of a motoring offence an additional excess will apply over and above the standard excess. Any driver found to be under the influence of alcohol will invalidate the insurance.
WHAT WILL IT COST?
Assuming your application, (& permit), is approved, you will be able to use the vehicle in return for a donation. The rates for 3005 are as follows:
£60 per day (9am to 5pm – the vehicle may be returned at 9am the day after hire IF this has been agreed in advance with Silverstreet Motors, i.e. it will not affect any other hirers)
(Block bookings of 10 or more hiring’s will receive the 10th hiring free i.e. a 10% discount)
£95 per weekend (5pm Friday to 9am Monday) Other hire/use periods by negotiation.
